Comments
Originally part of a portfolio of 16 portraits in different colours of four reigning queens (Queen Elisabeth II, Queen Beatrix, Queen Margrethe and Queen Ntombi Twala), these iconic portraits have a distinctly radiant and immediate effect on the viewer. Andy Warhol continued to transform portraits of well-known personalities into works of Pop Art. As his models, he used official state images, which were also used for banknotes and stamps. The Queen series brought Warhol a good deal closer to his greatest wish of becoming as famous as the Queen of England.
Edited by George C. P. Mulder, Amsterdam and printed by Rupert Jasen Smith, New York.
