Comments
Sheet from the portfolio "Marilyn Monroe (Marilyn)", consisting of 10 screenprints, which the artist created in 1969 in an edition of 250 copies.
These were the first prints Warhol produced under the name "Factory Additions, New York" and were printed by Aetna Silkscreen Products, Inc. in New York. The so-called "Edition Prints", the limited editions that Warhol created between 1962 and 1987, were each preceded by a long test print process in different colour and form variants, from which he selected 10 prints for the final edition. They were printed uniformly.
The motif of the iconic actress Marilyn Monroe is based on the press photo taken by Eugene Kornman in 1953 on the occasion of the shooting of the film "Niagara".
