21"H x 21"W Andy Warhol SIGNED ON BACK, Flash- November 22, 1963, 1968 Screenprint on paper (F&S.II.40) The Andy Warhol Flash 38 screenprint was created in tones of gray and white and prominently features a portrait of President John F. Kennedy. There is a layering of multiple images of the president, but Warhol chooses to use the same image multiple times to strengthen the meaning. This image is part of a portfolio of eleven different screenprints in response to the continuing spectacle the media had created surrounding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The images he used came from campaign posters, mass-media photographs and advertisements. The title Flash – November 22, 1963 represents the date of the assassination and the constant news attention about
